Pat's Table

Updated:

Larry Stewart says it's one way to  honor his late wife. It is a ministry in Prophetstown that means so much to so many.

A legion of volunteers spring into action at the Prophetstown United Methodist Church. Once a week the fellowship hall at the church is a gathering place for a warm meal and friendly conversation. The ministry is called Pat's Table. Larry Stewart says he got this inspiration from God to establish this weekly community meal in honor of his late wife Pat.

Pat Stewart died last year following a five year battle with cancer. She was a former teacher, librarian, and church organist in Prophetstown. Her husband says his late wife was a person used to helping people all the time. Larry Stewart says she would not want to take any credit. Instead, she would rather give the glory to God.

Since  January, the church has been serving meals on Monday Night to promote fellowship, companionship and as a tribute to Pat Stewart.  People come from miles  around. The meals are free, and it's also a way to take part in community.

Since the program started, almost four thousand meals have been served. Church Pastor Cheri Stewart says people feel loved at Pat's Table. That's just the way she would want it, saying everything Pat Stewart did was with passion, conviction, and love in her heart.
