Ambrose Hall was built in 1885 and was the first structure on the Davenport campus. In fact, it was the only building on campus until the 1920s.
Now, the private university is looking to give the historic building a facelift. The building is encased in scaffolding as part of an extensive exterior renovation.
"It is our iconic building, that when people think of St. Ambrose, they think of this building," said Mike Poster, St. Ambrose University V.P. of Finance. "So it was very important to us that we get this building the next 50 years of its useful life."
The work is projected to cost more than $5 million dollars. Over the next two years, the university's operational budget will fund the exterior updates
As for work on the interior, the funding has not yet been determined.
