Quad City Metro Had Lowest IL June Unemployment

Updated:

The Quad City metro area in Illinois has the lowest unemployment rate in June.

The Davenport-Moline-Rock Island metro area had the lowest unemployment rate in June at 6.8%.

Unemployment declined in all but 4 of the state's dozen metro areas in June.

The state Department of Employment Security said Thursday that the only areas with higher jobless rates were the Chicago-Joliet-Naperville, Danville, Decatur and Peoria metro areas.

Unemployment increased from 9.6% in June 2012 to 10.3% in the Chicago area.

The highest rate was 12.5% in Decatur. That was up from 10.9% a year earlier. The town has seen a number of layoffs by Caterpillar Inc. at a local plant that makes mining trucks.

The department said earlier this month that statewide unemployment was 9.2% in June.
