It is a place that has a wonderful history of producing musicals and comedies. The Clinton Area Showboat Theatre has been a fixture on the riverfront in that city for decades.

Years  ago, it used to be a tugboat named the Omar. Later it would become a theatre. It has become a training ground for several local and professional cast and crew who love theatre.

Tommy Iafrate is an artistic director. He says summer theatre is a wonderful opportunity for people to experience what professional theatre can be like.

There have been people who worked at the showboat and went on to perform on Broadway and get nominated for Tony Awards.

Some cast members come from out of state and spend the summer at the Showboat. Carly Berg is a college student from Georgia who has the lead in the play  She Loves Me. She is thankful for the opportunity to act and also work in the children's theatrical camps.

The lobby at the showboat is filled with pictures that chronicle the rich history of past productions performed in the intimacy of the Lillian Russell Theatre on the Showboat.

Summer theatre at the Showboat runs from June through mid-August.
