Three-million dollars is heading to three Illinois colleges in our area.

Governor Pat Quinn came to Augustana in Rock Island today for the grant announcement. $3.1 million will go to Augie, Knox College in Galesburg and Monmouth College.

The money will be used to upgrade campus buildings, plus improve overall education and create construction jobs.

"The folks who built Augustana in the first place made contributions of their own back then in order to build this school," said Quinn. "Our job in the 21st Century is to continue that tradition and rebuild some parts of the campus and build new buildings as well."

More than $1.3 million is going to Augustana That includes renovation of Old Main and building a new student life center.

About $930,000 in grant money is going to Knox College to install new facilities in the center for fine arts and fix up the student union.

Another $930,000 is going to Monmouth to help with several projects including a new center for science and business.
