New Bettendorf School Security Measures

Updated:

A new school year in Bettendorf is bringing security changes throughout the district.

Three Elementary Schools are taking part in a new pilot program called the Raptor system.

This will print out a specific photo ID badge and the visitor will be checked against a nationwide database. It can cross-check the sex offender database, as well as any special notes from the district on visitors who might not be allowed.

"This seemed like a more efficient way for us to have all of this information in the system so if there is an emergency of any kind we can pretty quickly pull up who is in the building beyond the students and staff and to know who's there and when they're there," said Bettendorf Superintendent Dr. Theron Schutte.

There are new procedures for visitors district-wide as well. They must not only check in at the office but also provide a photo ID, sign in and out and wear a visitor's badge.
