The Lure of Fishing

Updated:

Jim Wristen of Davenport thinks he has the best of both worlds. He is an accomplished woodworker and also loves to fish.

One of his talents is to make fishing lures. In the last three years, he has made over a thousand.

Jim is self- taught. He mainly uses re-cycled walnut which he purchases at the Habitat Re-Store. He designs the lures, sands the wood, and also does the painting.

Jim works out of his garage, using power tools to do much of the work.

The color schemes of the lures will attract fish. For instance, Jim says some days they are attracted to a real dull color. Other days it's a bright color.

Wristen  has caught bass, bluegill, and other fish with the lures he has designed.

Some of his lures are shaped like frogs.

If Jim is not in his garage making lures, there's a pretty good chance he has gone fishing.
