The women are on pins and needles for a very good cause. They have a heart for our soldiers. The local chapter of Quad Cities Quilts of Valor meets monthly at the First Congregational Church in Moline.

The group of volunteers makes quilts for soldiers who have been injured either physically or emotionally while serving in Iraq or Afghanistan.

Terry Austin is one of the leaders of the group. She says each piece of fabric is cut into blocks and patterns.  She turns the group loose and the women make gorgeous quilts to be given to the troops.

Quilts have also been given to veterans who served in other conflicts as well.

Dennis Zahrt is one of the men in the group. He also makes quilts.

So far this year, the local chapter of Quilts of Valor has made about 40 quilts.

The National Chapter of Quilts of Valor started about ten years ago.
