At Central High School in Davenport, Iowa, the masses reported to school early for the start of the semester on Monday, August 12, 2013.

As students are dealing with the stresses of the first day, Davenport school leaders are already thinking about the finish line.

This past weekend, officials brought in former drop outs to talk to students and help them reach their "graduation destination".

Davenport administrators say that the district's dropout rate is the highest in the state, at eight-point-seven percent and city and school leaders want to change that.

The district's spokesperson, Dawn Saul tells us they are working to combat those numbers.

"We looked at our drop out rate and we felt it was way too high. We are a large urban district so that's always going to be challenge for us I think."

While Davenport's dropout rate is high, it is lower than it has been. At one point it was nearly 10 percent.

As of today, we're told 3 students have already reapplied to finish school.
