Model Boaters

Updated:

Some are built for style. Others for speed. Since 2003, the Mississippi Bend Model Boaters have showcased battleships, paddle wheelers, pleasure craft, fire boats, and much more.

During the summer months, the group calls Middle Park Lagoon in Bettendorf their home.

The boats are run by radio control. Rod Galloway owns a model boat called the Motley Crew. It zips through the water at fifty miles an hour. Galloway says there is a tremendous amount of satisfaction in building a boat, putting it on the water, and doing what you want it to do.

Artist and ship enthusiast Michael Blaser guides a British battleship he built. The HMS Dreadnought.  Blaser also built a model of the USS San Francisco.

Many of the boats are powered by electric motors, wind power, or steam engines.

The Mississippi Bend Model Boaters meet Saturday mornings from 10:00 to noon at Middle Park Lagoon. Membership is open to all.
