Bicyclist Hit By Car On Hwy. 67 In Pleasant Valley, Iowa


A bicyclist was sent to the hospital late Wednesday morning, August 14, 2013, after police say he was hit from behind by a car on Highway 67 in Pleasant Valley, Iowa.

The incident happened around 11:22 a.m. at 17948 Great River Road (Highway 67), near the Pleasant Valley BP Amoco gas station.

Police say a 2006 blue Chevy Impala, driven by 61-year-old Nancy Pearson of LeClaire, Iowa was traveling southbound on Highway 67 when the vehicle she was driving struck a 60-year-old man from Bettendorf, who was riding a bicycle.  

According to the report, the bicyclist was in the right had lane near the white fog line when he was hit from the rear.  

The man was transported to Genesis East Hospital with head injuries, where he was later flown to the University of Iowa Hospital in Iowa City, Iowa.

Police say he wasn't wearing a helmet.

His condition is unknown.

His name is being held pending family notification.  

Pearson was issued citations for failure to maintain control and unsafe passing of a bicyclist.   

The accident remains under investigation.
