He is six four, 285 pounds. At age 85, Derb Ganzer  still has a lot of little kid left in him. He plays volleyball, weekly,  with a group of people at the former Grand Mound Elementary School.

For more than 25 years, Derb has been a force to be reckoned with on the volleyball court. He loves the game and started playing it when he was in the Navy.

The Gentle Giant  is not hard to find on the court. Derb wears bib overalls and a short sleeve shirt.

Many of the players he competes against are several years younger.

Joe Lindemann and Linda Barnett are two volleyball players who really enjoy the game and say Derb makes it very interesting. They call him an inspiration.

At 85, Ganzer says he probably moved better on the court last fall than he does today. Why? Ganzer chuckles and says he gained ten pounds, right around the belly. That, he says, will slow you down!
