The 2013 Floatzilla kicks off Saturday. This is the 4th year The Quad Cities River Action hosts the event.

As people get on the Mississippi to enjoy the water trails for that, there are some major safety concerns people need to be aware of.

About 1,600 people on canoes and kayaks were expected to be out on the river. Safety officials say even though the waters were calm, there will always be a concern because you never know what can happen.

"There's always safety concerns, there are other pleasure crafts out here with all the other kayaks and canoes. We have to be aware of that so we have a lot of agencies working with us," said Dustin Bland with the U.S. Coast Guard.

He also says there's a concern with people drinking and going out in the waters. He says life jackets are at the top of the list of what people have to bring.

There was also an attempt to break a world record for the number of people joining in on the event. Kayaks and canoes linked together on Lake Potter in Sunset Marina to try to get into The Guinness Book.

However, they did not break the record which was 1,902.
