Owner of Del's Eatery & Pub Sells Property

A follow-up to a devastating fire that destroyed a longtime business in Eldridge, Del's Eatery and Pub. The mayor confirms the owner has sold the location.

Del's Eatery and Pub was centrally located in Eldridge off of the main strip on LeClaire road. Eldridge Mayor Marty O'Boyle tell us the owner of Del's has sold the land to First Central State Bank. The bank will build on the restaurant property.

There is no word yet on where Del's Eatery and Pub may relocate.

The community lost a landmark in January when the popular restaurant in Eldridge went up in flames. Firefighters from all over the QCA fought the blaze for hours, but the restaurant and reception area were total losses.

Authorities say the fire began in the reception hall, but it's still unclear how it started.

Months ago the owner of Del's, Dave Delvichio told us he would rebuild, but we have learned if he does it will not be in the same location.

Residents in the area are a little surprised... and some upset to hear the landmark bar and restaurant will not stand in the same place.

"I thought it was a little unusual that they wouldn't build back where they've been for many, many years," says Eldridge resident Debbie Fordham.

Darrell Walters, a frequent Del's customer tells us what he thought when he first heard owners would not rebuild in the same location. "I thought it sucked. Really, because it's a prime spot and everybody ate there. I think some kind of restaurant put there would be best, it's a prime spot, right there in the middle of every where."

However, even with the possibility of a completely different location some residents across the QCA say they know they'll still come back to Del's once it's rebuilt.

"It's kind of a landmark situation. But wherever he builds it's going to be great because I spent a lot of time there and bought a lot of lunches," said frequent customer Harold Bramlett.

The mayor of Eldridge also tells us First Central State bank plans to start construction sometime within the next year. The company is currently in the process of hiring contractors and has a tentative completion date of 2015.
