West Liberty Man Found Dead In Creek

Authorities in Muscatine County hope that an autopsy will help explain how a West Liberty man died after his car was found submerged in a creek. On Sunday, Aug. 25, 2013, deputies were called to the 1600 block of 115th St. in West Liberty where a vehicle was discovered upside down in Wapsinonoc Creek.

The vehicle was pulled from the creek and inside, they found 35-year-old Rafael Jacobo-Bernabe. He was last seen around 10:30 Saturday night.

Authorities believe Jacobo-Bernabe was westbound on 115th St. when he lost control of his vehicle, striking a tree, and ending up in the creek.

The cause of death is pending the results of an autopsy. Authorities say alcohol is believed to have been a factor in the accident.
