Heat Helps Local Pool Business after Season's Slow Start

Updated:

Pools across the QCA said they would not be opening for business during this week's heat wave – despite it being a good business opportunity.

Earlier this summer KWQC reported that the public pool business was off to a slow start with a lot of rainy days and lower than average temperatures.

Now that the heat is here, the pools say they don't have the resources to stay open as the majority of lifeguards were students who are now back in school.

Some pools will reopen this upcoming weekend – including Annie Wittenmyer Aquatic Center in Davenport, White Water Junction in Rock Island and Scott County Park Pool.

Splash Landing in Bettendorf will not reopen this season. But the city said the pool did benefit from the heat this past weekend when more than 1,100 visitors turned out. The city said it isn't sure if the revenue from that will make up for the slow start until about one month from now.
