With the dangerously high temperatures forecasted for the upcoming days, the Rock Island Township has opened the Town Hall up to citizens as a daytime cooling center.

The Rock Island Township town Hall is located at 2827 7th Ave., and is open to anyone wishing to escape the heat during daytime hours.

The hours are from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. daily.

Those who come to the cooling center are also invited to stay  for the St. Joseph Evening Meal, a ministry of St. Pius X Catholic Church, that begins at 5:30 p.m.

The Township will continue to keep the Hall open until there is a break in the heat, but it will be closed over the weekend and on Labor Day Monday.

Officials invite people to bring a book to read or a hobby to work on. Tables and chairs are available.
