Wednesday, August 28, 2013 commemorates the 50th anniversary of the March on Washington and Martin Luther King Jr.'s "I have a dream" speech.
Special events are taking place in Washington D.C., including a speech by President Obama, scheduled to begin around 1:40 p.m. CDT.Communities across the country are also holding their own events, including here in Davenport, Iowa. A Dream Anniversary event will be held Wednesday at 2:30 p.m. in Lafayette Park in Davenport.Speakers include Iowa Congressman Dave Loebsack, State Senator Rita Hart, and Davenport Mayor Bill Gluba.Galesburg, Ill., is also marking the anniversary with an event that starts at 7:30 p.m. on the east lawn of the Knox County Courthouse.The president of Knox College is scheduled to speak.
There will also be hymns and a proclamation by the mayor.
