QCA Commemorating The 50th Anniversary Of MLK's March On Washington

Wednesday, August 28, 2013 commemorates the 50th anniversary of the March on Washington and Martin Luther King Jr.'s "I have a dream" speech.

Special events are taking place in Washington D.C., including a speech by President Obama, scheduled to begin around 1:40 p.m. CDT.

Communities across the country are also holding their own events, including here in Davenport, Iowa.

A Dream Anniversary event will be held Wednesday at 2:30 p.m. in Lafayette Park in Davenport.

Speakers include Iowa Congressman Dave Loebsack,  State Senator Rita Hart, and Davenport Mayor Bill Gluba.

Galesburg, Ill., is also marking the anniversary with an event that starts at 7:30 p.m. on the east lawn of the Knox County Courthouse.

The president of Knox College is scheduled to speak.

There will also be hymns and a proclamation by the mayor.
