Quad Cities Group Protests Military Intervention in Syria

The group Quad Cities Progressive Action for the Common Good organized a protest Sunday afternoon at Vander Veer Park in Davenport, Ia.  About a couple dozen people turned out there two speak out against American military intervention in Syria.

Protesters said they fear intervention leading to a war similar to the ones in Iraq and Afghanistan.

A goal in protesting, the group said, was to catch QCA lawmakers' attention.

When asked what he wanted to tell lawmakers, Protester Karl Rhomberg of Davenport said, "Take this guy [Assad] to the world court. You can present your evidence there and if you get a conviction you will martial world opinion in favor of your action. This is entirely about the process of democratic government."

KWQC reached out to all of our area legislators in Washington to see where they stand on the issue. Rep. Dave Loebsack (D-IA) said he is leaning strongly against military intervention. Rep. Cheri Bustos (D-IL) said she is undecided. Sen. Tom Harkin (D-IA) said he is hesitant when it comes to the issue. And Rep. Adam Kinzinger (R-IL) has said he supports military involvement.

Other lawmakers did not respond to our requests for comment.
