There's still a lot of little kid in seventy seven year old Leroy Bartenhagen. Model railroading is a favorite hobby for the man from Fruitland.

Bartenhagen designed a layout in the basement of his home. He has four hundred feet of track.

At one point, the train passes along the Muscatine riverfront as it looked in the 1940's and 1950's. He designed many of the model buildings in the layout.  There is a gas station and the Grand Hotel, along with the Maid Rite where Leroy met his wife.

The trains also pass a model of the Fruitland area where Leroy grew up on a family farm. He designed a model of what the family farm looked like when he was a youngster.

The shelves in his basement are filled with trains. Some date back to the 1920"s.

Riding the rails in the cozy confines of his basement is always a kick for Leroy Bartenhagen.
