The Quad Cities River Bandits first season as a Houston Astros affiliate was definitely one for the books as the bandits captured the Midwest League Championship Saturday night, September 14, 2013.
The Bandits players were on the dugout steps in the 9th inning at Modern Woodmen Park, where Andrew Walter got the last out on a fly ball to center, giving the bandits a 4-2 win over the South bend Silver Hawks.
The Bandits capped a three-game sweep in the championship series.
The River Bandits players, many in their first season of professional baseball, stormed the field and enjoyed a championship pile-on, as the big crowd at Modern Woodmen park gave their team a loud and long standing ovation.
The bandits completed a 9-1 playoff run and were basking in the glow of their accomplishment.
