Davenport Police Say Body Exhumed To Prove Murder

Davenport Police have made an arrest in connection with a death investigation.

On June 6, 2013, authorities were called to an apartment in the 1400 block of East 39th Street to check on the welfare of a resident with medical issues who hadn't been heard from in around two weeks.

The apartment door was locked and had to be forced open.

Once inside, they found 48-year-old Kevin O'Connel dead in bed. He appeared to be dead for several days.

Police say neighbors and apartment management were interviewed, and although nothing appeared to be suspicious, the Crime Scene Technician processed the scene.

In August, police say they received a tip that O'Connell had been drinking with another man and was choked to death.

Police say they reviewed evidence from the crime scene and conducted additional interviews. After speaking to family members, O'Connell's body was exhumed.

An autopsy confirmed the cause of death as strangulation.

On Friday, September 13, 2013, 32-year-old Stephen Boeding of Davenport was arrested and charged with first degree murder.
