An alarming situation with an armed man in a backyard ended peacefully in Dubuque Wednesday, Sept. 25, 2013. Around noon, police were called to a home near the intersection of Glen Oak and Rosedale Street where they found a man with a gun, acting as though he might harm someone or himself. Police recommended that nearby schools be put on lockdown, but because it was an early release day, only the senior high school actually went on lockdown.

Meanwhile, officers cordoned off the area while attempting to talk to the man. According to police, after about 45 minutes, the man agreed to disarm himself and surrendered peacefully. He was taken to a Dubuque hospital for evaluation. No one was injured during the incident and police say no charges are pending at this time.
