Crews On Scene Of Reported Gas Explosion

Mid-American crews as well as local fire departments and police are on the scene of a reported gas line explosion in Coal Valley.

Officials have not yet confirmed whether that explosion happened. Crews are checking a line along Niabi Zoo Road. Police aren't sure if gas has even run through that line at the time of the explosion.

As a precaution, people in the area have been asked to leave their homes. The evacuation is not mandatory. There have been no reports of property damage or injuries.

The reported explosion occurred off of Route 6 and bored under Niabi Zoo Road.

No injuries and no damage at this time. Crews are working on making contact with the contractor.

We're still getting details from authorities but so far we know crews were putting in some gas lines along Niabi Zoo Road.
The fire chief is on scene as well as KWQC's Katie Alexander.

We'll have more as the story develops.
