Long Distance Learning

Seventh grade Life Science students at Rivermont Collegiate in Bettendorf are taking the long distance approach to learn about dolphins and whales.

Recently, the class used a web cam to connect with an expert from the Dolphin Research Center in Florida. The technology allowed the students to ask expert Noelle Belden plenty of questions about dolphins and whales.

The students really enjoy the live aspect. They say it's like a virtual field trip. They watched video of dolphins and took notes while listening to Belden from their classroom.

Student Jessica Elliott would like to become a marine biologist and says this long distance learning opportunity is very helpful.

Teacher Jenna McAdam plans on including more long distance learning in her classroom  as the school year continues.

This year, every classroom at Rivermont  Collegiate was upgraded with software equipment which will allow students to communicate with experts and schools worldwide.
