Giving young kids the opportunity to get their education started is the mission of the family YMCA learning center in Davenport and they are opening a new preschool addition.

Through a grant from the United Way, the "Y" is able to increase it's preschool services. Those with the Scott County "Y" tell us early learning for kids sets the tone for education.

"Children, if they don't have these opportunities when they get to kindergarten they're not ready to sit down and learn, this gives us an opportunity to see exactly where they are," said Deb Gustafson, Executive Director of Childcare and Family Services. "This is the 1st step in many important tasks for children's growth and development."

The addition opens up 20 new slots available for the state-wide preschool program.
