It's not an easy subject to talk about.

But those planning ahead are finding paying for a funeral can be very expensive.

And now to the Cemetery Oversight Act in Illinois - those costs are getting higher.

And according to Martin Reichel, who manages three different cemeteries in Galesburg, IL , he says more regulations means more money out of the consumers pocket.

"It increases expenses to the point where you have to spend money to comply and of course those expenses are passed onto purchasers of plots and cemetery services," Reichel explains.

So many people are looking for less expensive options... Like cremations.

Funeral Director George Peterson says he has seen more clients move towards that option.

"It would probably be a third of the cost of a traditional service," says Peterson. "It's probably witchin the last 10 years we've seen not a dramatic, but steady increase. For the families we serve, that choice is around 35-40%."

And with more people choosing it - Reichel says that only drives up the price for those who would like to be buried.

"And you have to charge more to make up that difference because it still costs a certain amount of dollars to maintain a cemetery because it's a labor intensive proposition."
