The Rock Island County Zoning Board of Appeals will consider whether a Quad Cities ski area can be open year-round.

Snowstar Ski Area in Andalusia, Ill. hopes to open during warm-weather months for everything from craft fairs to concerts.

The plans would be to operate between June and October to balance revenue from the current ski season and provide additional benefits to the area.

The company applied for a special use permit from Rock Island County and the zoning board will consider the proposal Wednesday night, October 2, 2013.

At the first public hearing, though, neighbors complained about potential noise and traffic.

Other ski areas have attracted 500 to 3,000 people for summer events.

After Wednesday's meeting the proposal could go to the Rock Island County Board for final approval.
