Family And Friends Mourn The Loss Of Dave Harker

Hundreds of people have been searching for Dave Harker for days. Now, those people are dealing with the tragedy of his loss.

Harker went missing on Sunday was found dead in the Mississippi River Wednesday morning.
Known to many that can call him a friend, Dave Harker was a vibrant man who was quick with a smile.

"Dave was my best friend. He was the best man in my wedding," said 30-year-old Jerrod Roessler of Rock Island. Roessler and Harker met in high school.

"He was fun loving and carefree. Loved his kids, loved his family." Roessler says his buddy Dave would do anything for anyone --

"That's what you always wanted in a friend," he said.

Maybe that's why so many people showed up to support Dave and his family when they needed it most, when Dave went missing.

"My heart dropped," Roessler said. "Monday morning I was there bright and early at 7 a.m. and started looking for him."

Thousands followed the search effort on Facebook, but hundreds actually hit the pavement to help out.

"I didn't know what else to do." Roessler says that early on he feared the worst and, like so many others, hoped for a miracle.
"I was hoping it didn't turn out this way but in the back of my mind I kind of had a feeling."

Now, tragedy is reality for Roessler and for everyone else who knew Dave Harker.

"His kids are obviously taking it really hard. I mean, they want their dad. I'm his daughter's God Father so it hits me pretty hard. His kids, they're going to grow up without a dad now."

And, although Dave is not missing anymore, he is truly missed by many.

"Remember him," Roessler said. "Remember him for the vibrant person that he was."
