Alcoa Hosts Potential Employers And Students In Davenport

Updated:

A local employer is taking a closer look at manufacturing and hoping students or potential employees take a closer look too as part of "National Manufacturing Day."

Alcoa hosted a special event in conjunction with it's own environmental day at the Davenport works plant.

Local students and community leaders learned about products made there and also took a tour of the plant.

"We combined with manufacturing day because there's a definite need to bring awareness to the jobs that are available in manufacturing and what it takes to fill those jobs," said Rob Woodall, manufacturing director of Davenport works. "Our products end up in things like planes, automobiles and other things that they would be familiar with out in the world but they're not gonna get built without the skills of these up and coming students."

He says there are hundreds of thousands of unfilled manufacturing jobs in the United States.
