Queen Of Chamber Jazz

Meg Okura is a very gifted concert violinist who combines classical and jazz to create a unique sound.

She is the leader of the Pan Asian Chamber Jazz Ensemble. Meg and two other members of that ensemble performed for students at McKinley School in Davenport on Tuesday.

Meg was born in Tokyo. She started playing violin and piano when she was four years old.

She moved to New York City to study classical violin.  After graduation, she made the switch to jazz and has performed all over the world.

Okura is in the Quad Cities, participating in the Quad City Arts Visiting Artist Series.

Visiting Arts is celebrating its 40th season, giving students an opportunity to see some of the very best talent  the arts has to offer.

Brian Marsella is terrific on piano and Sean Kupicz played bass guitar and drums.

The ensemble will perform at a public concert on Saturday evening at seven o'clock at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Bettendorf. The concert is free.
