A health system that operates hospitals and clinics in Iowa and Illinois is expanding to Wisconsin.

UnityPoint Health announced Thursday that it's combining operations with Meriter Health Services in Madison, Wis., through an affiliation agreement.

UnityPoint says the agreement expands the company's health care services. It's now preparing necessary filings with appropriate regulatory agencies.

The company, previously called Iowa Health System, is based in West Des Moines. The addition of Meriter means UnityPoint will have hospitals and home care services in nine regions.
