"It is something that brings in about a thousand students as well as their families and friends who are hopefully stopping by and buying stuff at the gas station and stopping at the restaurants before they leave town, " said Muscatine Band Director Jeff Heid.

The district high school marching band competition is a day-long event known to bring money into the community.  The combination of twenty-two marching bands with their family and friends equals quite a financial gain to Muscatine. Though, the community doesn't just benefit.

"It is a financial income for all of us. We will probably walk out of this with a pretty good income for the Musky bands through the concession stands," said Heid.

It's money the school band could use. In fact, all the money made helps keep the band and other band-related activities afloat.

"It will be used to have band camp instructors, to purchase uniforms and take kids on trips  to march in other competitions," said Janet Clark.

The band director says rain is the only factor that could put a halt to the competition.  The weather this year though, worked out.

"The weather is amazing. Last year we got rained out and we didn't get to hold state contest,"said Heid.

The rain caused the town to lose out on the money it usually gets from the competition.  The band director said although it takes time to prepare for, it's always worth it in the end.

"This is why we do all of the work that we put in to it," said Heid.
