Devoted to cleaning up waterways, Chad Pregracke of Living Lands and Waters is getting more national recognition. With that is coming a lot of community support. There's a big push to help him get the top honor.
Pregracke was recently named one of the top 10 CNN Heroes of 2013. People are able to vote all over the globe to choose which one of the remarkable movers and shakers will be the winner. There's been a lot of encouragement from people in the community to see that the Quad Cities area native gets the recognition many think he deserves.
Aside from word of mouth it's all over social media. The Living Lands and Waters facebook page has been encouraging people to vote and vote every day. People are also messaging and sharing posts to help it spread. Members of his organization share in the excitement.
"It's really rewarding and I think one of the best things about doing what Chad does and what Living Lands and Waters does is the outpour that we see from people all over," said Amber Pribyl, office manager.
Each one of the final ten heroes gets a $50,000 grant. The top honoree receives another $250,000 to further aid their cause. Crew members say that money would help them move the tree nursery to the Quad Cities, provide more workshops on the barge, and do more cleanups.
Voting continues through November 17th. You can get more information at www.CNNHeroes.com  The CNN Hero of the Year will be revealed on December first during "CNN Heroes: an All Star Tribute."
