For the first time, the Loop Bus will be taking a winter break. Regular service linking downtowns in the Quad Cities will end on Saturday. Right now, the bright orange retro-style busses operate on Fridays and Saturdays from 6 p.m. to 3:30 a.m., but because the grant money to pay for the service is running out, service will be suspended until May.

The news is disappointing to bartenders and patrons at popular night spots.

"There's a portion of people who don't drive that really value it at night and not just going home from the bars, but getting to them," said Dann Cornelis of Great River Brewery.

The Loop operates four buses and two routes serving the communities of Bettendorf and Davenport and Rock Island and Moline. Regular Loop service for the 2014 season will resume on Friday, May 2.
