The owner of the Burlington, Iowa "mystery box" has been found.

Michael McCullough spotted a box in the middle of the intersection of highway at 61 & 34 and decided it needed to be moved to prevent an accident.

As he removed the box and its scattered contents from the road, he realized it was loaded with photos and sentimental keepsakes.

The problem? There was no identification anywhere to be found.

McCullough even reached out to police to help find out who it belonged to, with no luck.

It was only after the mystery box went social, that it found its way back to its owner, Kathy Werner.

Werner was brought to tears when she was reunited with the priceless keepsakes found inside.

She says she didn't even know it was missing since she was in the process of moving.

Werner was reunited with the box and its contents on Monday, October 28, 2013, just a day after the initial KWQC broadcast and Facebook post.

She gives a lot of credit to the role social media played in the reunion.

According to Werner, someone she knew saw the story shared on Facebook and reached out to one of her friends.

That friend got in touch with her, they met up and were able to reunite her with her lost mementos.
