It'll be a tough Halloween for a family of six.

Their house in Rock Island caught fire Thursday morning. The call to 720 30th St. came in after 10 a.m. When firefighters arrived, there was smoke coming from the back of the two-story home. Rock Island Assistant Fire Chief Jeff Yerkey says police were the first on the scene and there was initial concern that someone might still be inside.

"But the homeowner, who was at work, had accounted for everyone who was at work or at school. We do know there were six occupants that normally live here, but they were not here. There was no one in the house when the fire started," he said.

The fire was quickly put out. It was confined to the first floor kitchen area. The city building inspector was investigating to determine whether it's safe for the family to continue to live in the home.
