Congregation Beth Israel will hold a special Shabbat service to honor area veterans at 7 p.m. Friday in the main sanctuary of the Tri City Jewish Center, 2715 30th St., Rock Island. The approximately one-hour service to honor veterans is open to all. A reception with light  refreshments will follow. Chaplain (Lt.) Emily Rosenzweig, who has served recruits and staff members of Recruit Training Command/Great Lakes Naval Base since 2012, will offer the evening's sermon. Call 309-788-3426 for details. Free.

The Bettendorf Park Band will perform the annual Veterans Day concert at 7:30 p.m. at the Herbert D. Goettsch Community Center, 2204 Grant St., Bettendorf. This will be director, Jim Crowder's last concert with band. He'll be retiring after 25 years. Free.

A sunset flag ceremony will begin at 4 p.m. at Veterans' Memorial Garden and Aisle of Flags, Andover Lake Park, 5th Street and Locust Street. Refreshments will be served at the Legion Building afterward, and attendees can write letters and make Christmas cards for service members overseas. Free.

A quilt presentation and portrayals of U.S. Presidents Ulysses S. Grant and Abraham Lincoln will be part of a Veterans Day program at 1 p.m. at the Quad City Botanical Center, 2525 4th Ave., Rock Island. There also will be storytellers and viewing of "A Place in Time," an exhibit featuring quilts with Civil War reproduction fabrics. The event will mark the 30th anniversary of the Mississippi Valley Quilters Guild and the 150th anniversary of the Battle of Gettysburg. Call 309-794-0991 for details. The Annual Davenport Veterans Day Parade: The parade begins at 10:00 a.m. at the corner of 4th Street and Western Avenue, and the ceremonies will begin at 11:00 a.m. The parade will start at 4th and Western and go south to 3rd Street, east to Main Street, south to 2nd Street, west to Scott Street and north to the Scott County Courthouse.

The Genesis Veterans Day Films Event.  See two inspirational films at the Adler Theatre in Davenport and take an opportunity to hear from one of the filmmakers! The documentary "Honor Flight" will be shown at 1 and 8 p.m. Veterans will receive an enamel pin and certificate. The documentary "To Them That's Gone" will be shown at 6 p.m. Filmmaker William Gardiner will speak. Veterans will receive an enamel pin and certificate and are invited to gather before 6 p.m. for a group photo. Proceeds will go toward the We Honor Veterans program for Genesis hospice patients. Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1303, its Ladies' Auxiliary and American Legion Post 200 will conduct a Veterans Day service at 9 a.m. at Chippiannock Cemetery, 2901 12th St., Rock Island. P.J. Hymes Jr., VFW Post 1303 commander, will give the address. It will include an honors salute and taps, and a buddy poppy wreath will be placed. Call 309-236-1633 or 309-799-7607 for details. Free.

Command Sgt. Maj. James Spencer will speak at a Veterans Day program at 11 a.m. at American Legion Post 227, 829 16th Ave., East Moline. Call 309-755-5622 for details. Free.

A Veterans Day ceremony will begin at 11 a.m. at American Legion Post 569, 515 W. 1st Ave., Milan. A representative of the Rock Island Arsenal will speak; post officials will lay a wreath; and the Honor Guard will fire a salute. A Veterans Day ceremony will begin at 1 p.m. at the main flagpole circle, National Cemetery, Rock Island Arsenal. Maj. Gen. John F. Wharton, commanding general, will be the keynote speaker. Ages 17 and older must have photo ID to enter the island. Call 309-782-2094 for details. Free.

The Col. Davenport House, north shore, Arsenal Island, will be open for Veterans Day from noon to 4 p.m. Call 309-786-7336 for details. Admission is $1 or free for members of the military.

Wes Wells and Friends will perform "A Thanks to Our Soldiers in Song: Paying Tribute to American Veterans from the Revolutionary War to Iraq and Afghanistan" at 6 p.m. at the Sherrard Library, 201 5th Ave. Snacks will be served. Call 309-593-2178 for details. Free.
