Warm Welcome For Wounded Warrior

Updated:

Twenty three year old Army Specialist Matt Pundyk will always remember his first visit to Iowa.

He was right on target. Matt recently went pheasant hunting in Sabula. An honored guest at the Veterans Hunt at Beckridge.

I caught up with Matt while he was trap shooting at the Clinton County Sportsmans Club near DeWitt. Matt received a shotgun, hunting clothing, free airline tickets and a hotel room during his weekend stay.

Specialist Pundyk  has come a long way since May 25th, 2012. He was on patrol in Afghanistan when he stepped on a bomb which was buried in the road. He went flying through the air. His left leg was partially amputated because of the injury.

He was in the hospital for almost two months.  He has made great progress, is walking,  and had a wonderful weekend with several other veterans at the hunt.

Pundyk says there are some days he wishes the injury had never happened. Other days, Matt says he is thankful to be alive.

Specialist Pundyk received the Purple Heart.

He is from Elverta, California.

Dave Crockett is a member of the Clinton County Pheasants Forever Chapter. He says Matt is going to be very successful in life. You can just see it in his demeanor.
