Pregracke Party At Bettendorf's Waterfront

Updated:

A festive mood was in the air at the Quad Cities' Waterfront Convention Center as hundreds turned out to celebrate Chad Pregracke's CNN Hero of the Year award.

Pregracke thanked his supporters and accepted a $20,000 donation from Alcoa, as well as $50,000 from ADM to continue the environmental work he's been doing with his Living Lands and Waters organization.

Amber Pribyl with Living Lands and Waters says the celebration was a way to give back to the Quad Cities community.

"It's a big 'thank you' for everyone in the Quad Cities who continues to support us, who voted for us every day for the last five weeks. It was a really long voting campaign and people were really supportive."

Meanwhile, Pregracke tells KWQC the award he was given is really statement about his mission.

"I feel like some people voted for me, but I think a lot of people voted for clean water. And that's really cool."

In honor of the East Moline man, Illinois Governor Pat Quinn declared Sunday, December 1, 2013,  Chad Pregracke Day.
