She is the friendly woman with a warm smile, ringing the bell for the Salvation Army Red Kettle Campaign at North Park Mall in Davenport.

Captain Vivian "Ray" Rahenkamp is 91 years young, and is on duty six days a week, eight hours a day.  This is the fourth year she has made the trip from her home in Florida to help out at the mall.

Captain Ray is friends with Salvation Army Major Felton and his wife.

The Captain has a nursing background and years ago made the decision to enter the Salvation Army College For Officer Training. She served as a nurse in India at a Salvation Army Hospital there.

Now, at age 91, she still has a zest for life, and puts love and joy into ringing the bell during the kettle campaign. Many people in the Quad Cities recognize her and are thrilled that she returns to Davenport during the Christmas Season.

She greets people with a "Merry Christmas" and also makes it a point to carry on a friendly conversation.

She says there is such a need for the less fortunate. The Salvation Army hopes that her presence at the mall will help to generate thousands of dollars in donations.

Captain Rahenkamp has spent her lifetime placing others' needs ahead of her own. A tireless volunteer who believes that "to whom much is given, much is required."
