Sheley Trial Delayed Until May 2014

The trial that was supposed to begin in January, 2014 has once again been postponed.

Nicholas Sheley is preparing to stand trial on multiple murder charges from Whiteside County for a quadruple homicide that happened in 2008.

On Tuesday, December 3, 2013, the judge allowed a continuance to push the trial date back to May 9, 2014.

The defense made the request to properly prepare for the case, citing the huge amount of evidence that required testing.

In April of 2013, the trial was moved to Rock Island County because Sheley lawyer, Jeremy Karlin, argued too many people in the county were familiar with the case, making it hard to find a fair and impartial jury.

The trial was scheduled to start in October 2013, but in July, a continuance was granted, moving the trial to January 2014.

The latest continuance gives the defense four more months to prepare their case.
