A comfortable exam room or on-site laboratory may be taken for granted when it comes to getting health care. They were lacking at a clinic located at the Salvation Army in downtown Davenport. On Tuesday, officials with Community Health Care, Inc. dedicated an expansion of its outreach clinic that includes those upgrades and more. The improvements include cosmetic updates to the floors and walls, new exam tables, diagnostic equipment and lab facilities.

Community Health Care serves many patients who are homeless or in transitional living situations and often don't have access to health care. Community Health Care CEO Tom Bowman says the upgrades were much needed and will make the entire experience more comfortable and efficient for patients.

"Our patients, many times are patients that are under-served or overlooked," Bowman said. "Making sure patients have access to medical services, dental services, pharmacy services, will actually improve their overall health. And making sure it's convenient for them."

The expansion was paid for through a $38,000 grant from the Health Resources and Services Administration. Bowman says they are on track to serve around 1,100 patients this year.
