Retired Moline Teacher Arrested For Sexual Assault



The Moline School District has issued a release and response:

"At 4:35 p.m. today district administration learned of the arrest of a former district teacher in a criminal sexual assault. The district was deeply saddened to learn of these regrettable allegations and has been fully cooperating with local police throughout the investigation. As this is a police matter, inquiries regarding the arrest should go through Moline Police Department.

The district extends its sympathy to all victims of sexual assault and is committed to providing a safe environment for its students. All appropriate professional personnel will be notified of today's events and prepared to assist members of the school community who may need special support or assistance upon learning of this extremely unfortunate situation."


After a four month investigation by Moline Police, Henry D. Pawlus, 66, of Coal Valley was arrested for aggravated criminal sexual abuse and criminal sexual assault.

Pawlus was a teacher at Wilson Middle School in Moline at the time of the alleged offense and has since retired.

The alleged offense took place in January 2010 at Wilson Middle School. The female victim was 13-years-old at the time of the incident.

Pawlus is currently in custody at the Rock Island County Jail with bond of $150,000.
