Man Dies In Moline Bike Accident


A bicyclist in Moline, Ill. is dead after witnesses say he ran a red light and hit a vehicle.

Moline Police and Fire were called just after 5:00 p.m. on Thursday, December 5, 2013, to the intersection of 16th Street and 36th Avenue.

Police say the cyclist, 51-year-old Mark V. Wilson, was traveling westbound on 36th Avenue when he traveled into the intersection.

They say Wilson hit the driver side of a pickup truck that was headed southbound on 16th Street.

Police say numerous witnesses claim Wilson failed to stop at the intersection, ran the red light and struck the side of the truck in the intersection.  

Wilson was transported to the hospital.

He was pronounced dead Friday morning at 12:28.

The crash is still under investigation by Moline Police Traffic Investigators.
