Update: Two Men Arrested In Sterling, IL After Fight


Update: Eric Smith's charge of aggravated battery was dismissed on Dec. 12, 2013, but there is still an ongoing case with regards to the possession of a weapon by a felon charge. The next court date is Jan. 29, 2014.


A knife and a beer bottle were the weapons of choice at a fight in Sterling, Ill. on Saturday night, November 30, 2013.

Police were called to the 1500 block of East 25th Street to investigate a fight in progress involving a knife.

Witnesses tell police, 33-year-old Eric Smith, of Como, was fighting with 44-year-old Donald Schultz, of Sterling.

They say Smith had a knife and attempted to stab Schultz with it.

Police say as they were separating the two, Schultz hit Smith on the head with a beer bottle.

According to police, Smith refused treatment, but Schultz was taken to the hospital where he was treated and released into police custody.

Both men were arrested.

Smith was charged with possession of a weapon by a felon, unlawful use of a weapon and aggravated assault.

Schultz was charged with aggravated battery.
