St. Ann's Snow Village

Updated:

It will grab your attention. It's an eye opener. The gathering space at Saint Ann's Church near Long Grove will definitely put you in the Christmas Spirit.

This is the fifth year that the Department 56 Snow Village is on display  at the church.  The painted backdrops  feature the seven communities which are part of the parish.

Monsignor Drake Shafer is pastor at Saint Ann's.  He began collecting Department 56 Snow Village pieces in 1975. Since then he has added to the collection.

It takes about a week to put up the display.

Other people in the parish have donated items.

Cozy communities include ice skaters, children sledding, a version of Lost Grove Lake, the Davenport Airport, and a football game at Lancer Stadium.

The KWQC-TV studio is also included in the display.

Monsignor Shafer says the village will be on display through January.

There are several young families in the parish, and Shafer says children especially enjoy the villages. That, he says, makes it very special.
