An Ideal Plan

Updated:

It is still one of the most established businesses in the area. Arthur P. Griggs started Griggs Music House in Davenport in 1903.

He sold pianos and formulated what he called  An Ideal Plan. That plan included one price to all.

In the early 1900's, Griggs sold used pianos for sixty five dollars. In those days, the piano was the original home entertainment center.

Often, pianos were delivered to customers by horse drawn carriages.

In the 1920's, Griggs moved to a larger location in downtown Davenport and became the Arthur P. Griggs Piano Company.

Griggs survived the Great Depression, also selling refrigerators from the downtown location.

Three generations of the family ran the business for years.

Today, Steve Judge is one of the co-owners. Judge says the standards, tradition, and ethics that Arthur P. Griggs established more than a century ago are still the backbone of the company today.
