Christmas Around The World

Updated:

Visit Margaret Tweet's home at this time of year, and you'll find a very interesting tribute to the birth of Jesus. Margaret lives in Rock Island, and she decorates her living room with about forty Nativity sets.

She calls her collection a celebration of Christmas. Several of the Nativity scenes are from foreign countries. Her son brought one back from Italy. She has another made to look like origami but it is actually porcelain.

She and her husband have visited several continents, and many of the sets are from South America.

One Nativity scene is a music box. It was made in Taiwan. Another is an Eskimo interpretation of the birth of Christ. That set includes an igloo.

Margaret has the first one she purchased in 1950.

She says the sets are Fair Trade Items. She purchases them from the  artists who make them. Those artists get fair wages, and there are not any unfair labor practices.
