Semi Trailer Struck By Train In Sterling, IL


Mechanical issues were responsible for a train colliding with a semi in Sterling, Ill. on Thursday morning, December 19, 2013.

The incident happened around 7:09 a.m., when police say an equipment malfunction on the trailer of the semi caused the semi to become stuck.

A westbound Union Pacific train then collided with the vehicle.

Police say the semi sustained substantial damage while the train only received minor damage.

The semi driver was able to exit the vehicle before the train hit it and received no injuries.

There were also no injuries reported to any crew members inside the train.

There were no hazardous materials reported to be on the train or on the semi trailer.
